No more human rights on the shores of the Mediterranean
NO MORE HUMAN RIGHTS ON THE SHORES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN
To land and sea, this summer and the month of August especially was shaped by violence against migrants. The ban on landings, the criminalization of sea rescue as well as the violent migration policy are being continued––on European soil as on the external borders.
On Tunisian shores and the border between Tunisia and Libya migrants are being deported. There, the disregard for human rights shows that Tunisia no longer is a „safe harbor“.
In Sicily, the most shameful conditions are rampant in the reception centers. We have sued the CAS*, the extraordinary reception center Villa Sikania, on the grounds of a general disregard for human rights as well as illegalities on social, sanitary and juridical levels.
*CAS: centro di accoglienza straordinaria – extraordinary reception center.
